Study abroad guide
Study in the United States without an agent
A US university application does not require an agent. The portal, the I-20, and the visa interview are steps you can do in your own name. An agent is a paid helper, not a gate.
The school is the one that admits you
You apply on the university’s own site or on the application system that university names, such as the Common App for some undergraduate colleges. Create the account with your email address. The offer, the missing-document requests, and the I-20 should arrive there. If a company wants the login, or wants the mail sent to their address, you lose the only record you will need when a condition appears.
Ask any agent you are considering which button they press that you cannot press. Transcript uploads, a fee payment, and a statement of purpose are tasks you can do. What you are paying for, if you pay, is checking that the file is complete and that the deadlines match the intake. You can buy that check and still keep the account.
The file, in the order the office reads it
Passport identity page. Degree certificate and full transcripts. A translation only if the office asked for one, done the way they asked. English test, if the programme page names one, including the section scores. A CV of one or two pages for a master’s. A statement aimed at that programme, not at “America”. Run the statement through the grader, then fix the weakest criterion. The grader will not invent a laboratory or a grade.
Proof of funds is the school’s job to specify on the I-20 and in the admission letter. Do not put a guessed tuition number in the essay. Copy the figure from the programme page into the cost calculator, and add the insurance line the school names. This site does not invent a US health-insurance premium, because campuses set their own.
After the offer
The I-20 is the school’s form, not the visa. The visa interview is a separate appointment. Before that appointment the US government charges an I-901 SEVIS fee. The amount and the payment steps are on the official I-901 page, not in a blog. Pay it from your own card when you can, and keep the receipt next to the I-20. A conditional offer still has homework. Read the condition out loud and book that thing before you book the interview.
A previous refusal belongs on the form. Write what was refused and what is different. The readiness meter cuts points when that note is missing, because the form will ask. The meter is not an approval chance.
A four-week order
Week 1: shortlist programmes whose English floor you already meet or will meet after one booked test. Paste each floor into the matchmaker. Week 2: transcripts and the statement. Week 3: the funding number the programme actually published. Week 4: submit one complete application before you open a second portal. Six half-finished accounts are how intakes get missed, with or without an agent.
One student’s enrolment is not your probability. Score your own evidence, keep the emails, and send the cost breakdown to the person who is helping you pay.
